Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife premiered on Aug. 26

The three-part docuseries centers on Mica Miller, who died by suicide in 2024 and was married to John-Paul Miller

The docuseries leaves out some shocking details, including John-Paul’s criminal history

Death of the Pastor’s Wife centers on the tragic death of John-Paul Miller’s second wife Mica Miller, who died by suicide in April 2024.

The three-part Netflix docuseries, which was released on Aug. 26, outlined the South Carolina pastor’s relationship with Mica, including their first meeting at Solid Rock Church when Mica was a teenager, their 2017 marriage and subsequent separation.

During the series, Mica’s family and friends accused John-Paul of conducting several affairs and harassing her. John-Paul declined to comment to producers of the docuseries on the allegations.

In December 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office indicted John-Paul on allegations that he cyberstalked her before her death and made false statements to federal investigators. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently awaiting trial.

While the docuseries dove deep into Mica and John-Paul’s marriage, it left out some shocking pieces of information — including John-Paul’s previous criminal history and insight from his first wife, Alison “Ali” Williams.

Here’s what to know about the details missing from Death of the Pastor’s Wife.

John-Paul has a history of crimes and allegations against him that are unrelated to Mica.

In February 2025, a lawsuit accused John-Paul of raping a 15-year-old girl when he was a 19-year-old youth church leader, according to a complaint filed in Horry County’s Court of Common Pleas and reviewed by PEOPLE.

The anonymous woman alleged that John-Paul touched her genitals without her consent in public in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in 2023, per the complaint. This encounter then “triggered repressed memories” of the alleged 1998 rape, per the complaint.

John-Paul’s dad, Reginald Wayne Miller, was named as a defendant in the complaint along with his and John-Paul’s many religious affiliations, including Solid Rock Ministries.

In the complaint, the Jane Doe alleged that she was at a church operated by Reginald when John-Paul forced her into his father’s office and “immediately became aggressive, physically overpowering Plaintiff and forcing her against the wall.” She resisted and then John-Paul took her to his truck where he allegedly raped her, according to the complaint.

In March 2025, John-Paul countersued the woman for libel and alleged that all of her claims were false, according to documents reviewed by PEOPLE. John-Paul’s attorney Nathan S. Williams declined to comment to PEOPLE multiple times, and the suits are ongoing.

Separately, in 1998, John-Paul was convicted of assault and battery while he was still a teen, according to a Horry County Court public index reviewed by PEOPLE. He hit a woman with his truck and continued to drive with her on the hood for nearly 100 yards, according to The Post and Courier.

Per the outlet, John-Paul accused the woman of harassing him and jumping on the truck. He pleaded guilty, according to court records, but was pardoned for the charge in 2022, per the outlet.

John-Paul and his dad’s ministry relocated to Myrtle Beach, S.C., following allegations of sexual misconduct

The Miller family ministry was founded by Reginald as Florence Tabernacle Church in the early 1970s, according to the February 2025 lawsuit against them. The church later expanded into Gloryland Bible College and then Cathedral Bible College.

In 1993, the ministry was relocated from Florence, S.C., to Myrtle Beach, S.C. following allegations of sexual misconduct involving Reginald and the college students, per the lawsuit, which was reviewed by PEOPLE. The organization was then rebranded as Cathedral Baptist Church.

“Over time, in an effort to further distance himself from prior controversies and to maintain operational continuity under a new identity, Cathedral changed names and identities to ‘All Nations Church’ while remaining under the same centralized control of RWM and his inner circle,” the lawsuit read.

By 2013, All Nations Church operations were transferred to John-Paul Miller’s Solid Rock Ministries, per the lawsuit.

Ali didn’t participate in any sit-down interviews featured in Death of the Pastor’s Wife. However, before Mica’s death, Mica confided in Ali “regarding the behaviors of [John-Paul]” and concerns about the safety of him and Ali’s children while they were in his care, according to an affidavit reviewed by PEOPLE.

According to an affidavit reviewed by the Crime Junkie podcast, Alison claimed she had similar experiences with John-Paul to those Mica allegedly had with him.

“I was married to J.P. for 16 years. Although my story and what I lived through with J.P. was different in some ways, many of the details shared with me, by Mica, are so similar to my own experiences with J.P. that I know she was being truthful,” Alison said per the document, which was read on Crime Junkie.

John-Paul started moving assets around after Mica’s first divorce attempt

John-Paul started moving assets into his name after Mica’s first divorce attempt in 2023, according to a separate affidavit from one of Mica’s sisters which was reviewed by Crime Junkie.

This included her car and the deed to their house, the latter of which he transferred to the church. He also transferred the deed to Crocodile Rocks, a piano bar in Myrtle Beach, S.C., to one of his sons, per Crime Junkie.

John-Paul had an older son, Logan, during a previous relationship before his marriage to Ali, according to her affidavit reviewed by Crime Junkie. He is listed as one of Reginald and his wife Inez Miller’s grandchildren in theirobituaries.

Logan was arrested and charged with first-degree domestic violence in January 2024, per WPDE. He was accused of pushing the victim, hitting her in the back of the head with a glass bottle and fleeing the home where the incident took place in Conway, S.C. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, per the outlet.

According to a police report reviewed by WPDE, Logan agreed to turn himself in after being contacted by phone. He also reportedly told police the victim had shredded his personal documents, so he broke her computer in retaliation. The current status of this charge is unknown.
