American tennis player Jessica Pegula is currently No. 3 in the world in women’s singles.

Throughout her career, she’s had support from her husband, Taylor Gahagen, whom she started dating in 2015.

They tied the knot in 2021 and have been supporting each other, as well as parenting their three dogs, ever since.

Right now, American tennis player Jessica Pegula is No. 3 in the world, but that could change in a matter of days. Currently competing at the U.S. Open, Pegula could score the No. 1 spot in the worldwide rankings if she wins the women’s singles championship.

“My goal always when I was younger actually wasn’t really to win a Slam; it was to be No. 1,” she told the Tennis Channel. “Obviously, I think those things go hand-in-hand, but it was always something that I thought was amazing to be achieved.”

To help her achieve that impressive feat, Pegula has relied on her team, her family, and her husband, Taylor Gahagen. Pegula and Gahagen, who began dating in 2015, have supported each other’s careers ever since. And in addition to cheering her on at major games, Gahagen has a history of working with Pegula, including for their joint non-profit, A Lending Paw, which was established in 2018.

Below, find out everything there is to know about Jessica Pegula’s husband, Taylor Gahagen, and their relationship.

He’s into sports too.

Much like his wife, Gahagen has also been into sports most of his life. After attending Williamsville North High School, he later enrolled in the State University of New York at Fredonia. There, Gahagen, who was born and raised in Amherst, N.Y., was on the school’s baseball team. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

After that, Gahagen continued his studies with a Master of Business Administration from Canisius University.

Starting in 2014, Gahagen started working at Pegula Sports and Entertainment, the company owned by Pegula’s parents, Terry and Kim Pegula. Terry and Kim are majority owners of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres.

In a 2016 interview with WKBW, Gahagen spoke about what excited him about the work. “I don’t think there’s anywhere else I would want to work,” he said. “It’s so exciting. I think everybody’s talked about the opportunity in the area and the opportunity for Buffalo and the pride of Buffalo is bar none. Raising the profile of Buffalo on a national, international, global scale is what’s most exciting.”

He ended up leaving the family business in 2023. Gahagen now works as a managing partner at Dragos Capital and Agarwood Wealth, according to his LinkedIn.

While it’s no public knowledge when and where Pegula and Gahagen met, they were first linked in 2015 when she shared a photo from a costume party they attended, per People.

The post has now been deleted, so the earliest social media post of them together is in 2016, when they attended a Hamilton performance on Broadway in NYC. “Hamilton,” she wrote in the caption.

They got married in 2021.

After getting engaged around 2019, the couple started planning their wedding. With the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, however, they pushed their big day, which was initially planned for the fall of 2020.

“We were supposed to get married in October last year,” Pegula said on the “Tennis.com Podcast” in January 2021. “We postponed it a year...It’s fine; it worked out!”

Pegula and Gahagen tied the knot at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, in October 2021. The couple celebrated with family, friends, and several of Pegula’s fellow tennis players, including Jennifer Brady, Asia Muhammad, Taylor Townsend, and Samantha Crawford.

They spent their honeymoon in Costa Rica.

The following summer after their wedding, Pegula and Gahagen went on their much-deserved honeymoon in Costa Rica. Speaking to WTA, Pegula said the experience was “amazing.” “We want to go back so bad, because it was just the best experience with people, the food, the lifestyle, was so much fun,” she said.

Pegula then talked about some of the activities on the trip, many of which she did, and her husband waited by the side instead. “I am very adventurous, so I was actually waterfall rappelling down like a massive waterfall,” she said. “I don’t know if that was the smartest thing to do, but my husband is not adventurous at all, so he didn’t even go. I went by myself on our kind of vacation together, but he did wait for me with the tour guides.”

In addition to her career in tennis, Pegula also founded her skincare company, Ready 24, and founded A Lending Paw, a charity that helps support the training of rescue dogs to become service animals. In both ventures, she’s working alongside her husband.

“We wanted to help people afford service dogs,” Pegula told Vogue. “Not only is it about dogs helping people, it’s about people helping dogs, because we only work with rescues. It goes both ways.” Gahagen works as the President of the organization.

As for the skincare company, Gahagen co-founded the line with his wife and is now the Vice President. The brand is a skincare line catered to people with an active lifestyle. “I like to say it’s adaptable skin care,” Pegula told Vogue. “It’s for people on the go, not just athletes, and people that might want to mix their regimen with other products. It’s very basic: Growing up, I had horrible skin, and usually when I did less, my skin got better.”

They’re proud parents to three dogs.

Speaking of their love for dogs, Pegula and Gahagen are proud parents of three dogs: Maddie, an Australian shepherd, Des, a German shepherd, and Mabel, a German short-haired pointer.

“The best part of having dogs is that they love you no matter what,” Pegula told The Farmer’s Dog. “With them I can totally turn off. They don’t judge me on my wins or losses.” Pegula also gushed about her and her husband’s close bond with the pups. “If they’re not with [me and my husband] for one night, we’re like, ‘This is so boring,’” she said.

At major tennis events and tournaments, Gahagen is often seen in the stands cheering on Pegula. After winning the U.S. Open semifinal at the 2024 U.S. Open, Pegula even got teary-eyed talking about her family’s support. “It’s amazing. I have my brother there, my sister there. My dad, my brother-in-law, lots of friends, lots of family all scattered around. Obviously, my husband,” she said, before the camera panned to him sitting down. “He’s not even standing up. He doesn’t want to be seen.”

“I have so much family here,” she continued. “And they’ve been here watching a lot of my matches. So, to still be here, and to have them still here supporting me is crazy. I’m glad that they’re able to share this moment with me.”

In addition to going to games, Gahagen tries his best to give advice too. “Taylor just tries to tell me to slice more,” Pegula said in a 2025 episode of The Player’s Box podcast. “That’s always his go-to.”

“Clearly, my husband is not a tennis player. Or has no formal background or whatever,” she continued. “But that’s usually just his advice to me. And I’m just like, ‘Okay.’”
