Barack and Michelle Obama are celebrating their eldest daughter's birthday.

Malia Obama marks her 28th birthday on Saturday, July 4, and her parents honored the occasion by sharing rare family photos and a video.

“Happy Birthday, Malia! Don’t know where the time goes — but the joy of having you as a daughter never gets old,” Barack, 64, wrote in the caption his post.

The 44th president shared two photos: one of himself reading the children’s classic Goodnight Moon to Malia when she was a baby, and a second more recent snap in which Malia embraced her dad as he sat in a chair.

Michelle, 62, celebrated the occasion by sharing a video on Instagram set to Stevie Wonder's version of "Happy Birthday."

The behind-the-scenes clip showed the former first lady posing in a pink bucket hat for a casual photo with Malia and her youngest daughter, Sasha Obama.

“Happy birthday, Malia! You bring so much light and energy into the world with everything you do. Your dad and I are so proud of the woman you’ve become. ❤️,” Michelle captioned her post.

Malia, who goes by Malia Ann professionally, graduated from Harvard in 2021. She is now a filmmaker, writer and director based in Los Angeles.

The eldest Obama daughter worked as a writer for the 2023 Amazon Prime thriller Swarm, and she directed the short film The Heart, which debuted at Sundance in 2024.

Malia made a rare public appearance with her parents and sister for the star-studded opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on June 18.

Malia and Sasha spent much of their formative years in the public eye. They were 10 and 7, respectively, when their father was elected president in 2008, and 18 and 15, respectively, when he left office.

Barack recently raved about both of his children while speaking to PEOPLE exclusively ahead of the center’s opening.

"They are cooler, smarter, funnier ... Those two, Malia and Sasha, are all that,” the former president said.

"If I were their age ... I can barely keep up with them at the dinner table now, if I was their contemporary, I would just sit there," he added.

Michelle, meanwhile, said that her girls — and other young people like them —  keep her optimistic for the future.

"As my mom would say about us, and I have to say this about Malia and Sasha, as wonderful as they are, they just reflect back what their generation has to offer," she said.

"There are millions of amazing young people like our girls, and we see them every day,” Michelle continued.
