You’ll struggle to find a more coveted hair color at this year’s Met Gala than the rich, toasted “hot honey” blonde. Adopted by stars on the red carpet, the shade proves to be a seasonal staple on celebrity beauty mood boards, from mother-daughter duo Beyoncé and Blue Ivy to Love Story’s Sarah Pidgeon. Here’s everything you about the hue, including how to get it yourself for summer 2026.

“Hot honey” is a gilded, medium blonde that sits on the warmer side of the hair color spectrum, though it doesn’t run brassy or copper. Like the peppered elixir, it features threads of color variation throughout, like ribbons of light, and a soft shadow root that creates a sense of dimension. Pidgeon shifted into the shade from her previously brightened blonde, while Beyoncé and Blue Ivy make a strong case for pairing it with curly hair textures. Elsewhere, Doja Cat opted for a sandier take on the look, while Blake Lively and Gigi Hadid, long-standing poster girls for the trend, refreshed their tones with tousled, bouncy blow-dries.

The color was set to dominate long before last night’s event. Identical to hairdresser and forecaster Tom Smith’s leading color for summer 2026, Bessette blonde, which made a comeback thanks to Pidgeon’s recent portrayal of ’90s beauty icon Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, the two shades perfectly capture a sun-kissed, vintage effect.
“Honey-wheat, neutral-warm and expensive-looking yet seamless, this color is neither icy nor brassy,” he explains. “Somewhere between champagne and golden, it’s hard to determine the exact highlight pattern or technique used because it blends so naturally.”

He adds that Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy had an incredibly specific kind of blonde: fine, seamlessly blended and slightly deeper at the root. After years of very bright, foil-heavy blonde, we’re now ready for a welcome shift toward more wearable shades.
“Tell your hairdresser that you want a neutral-warm blonde with a root shadow, fine foiling rather than chunky, and a toner that sits in the beige-honey range,” he says. “This shade is transparent, so it will expose damage immediately. Minimize the use of purple shampoo; instead, opt for clarifying shampoos or products with chelators to retain clarity.”

As seen across the Met Gala’s red carpet, the exact shade should be determined by your skin tone and undertones, rather than one specific trending hue. For Doja Cat and Gigi Hadid, “hot honey” blonde takes on a more neutral, mellow appeal with a softer root look, while for Blake Lively and Beyoncé, warmth and intensity are everything. Speak to your hairdresser to determine the most flattering tone for you, and remember that as with any blonde shade, aftercare and conditioning post-bleach is essential.
