Britney Spears‘ ex-husband, Kevin Federline, has a tell-all memoir titled “You Thought You Knew.” It reportedly did not act as a “Catalyst” for the “Circus” singer’s arrest. On March 4, authorities arrested the artist in Ventura County, California, for suspected Driving Under the Influence. Now, a source reportedly claimed that it was not her ex’s memoir that led to the singer ending up in this situation.

Britney Spears’ problems ‘predate’ Kevin Federline’s memoir, per source

The problems of Britney Spears reportedly “predate” her ex-husband, Kevin Federline’s bombshell memoir, “You Thought You Knew.” The news came after the “Toxic” singer’s arrest in Ventura County for suspected DUI. As reported by Us Weekly, a source told them that “Kevin’s book wasn’t the catalyst for this,” while referring to the artist’s recent arrest. The person continued, “It did upset her deeply and definitely didn’t help matters.” The source then added, “But her issues predate the book.”

In the meantime, per the news outlet, after her arrest, the authorities released Spears from jail the next morning. The representative of the singer reportedly gave a statement, in which they called the incident “inexcusable.” The rep allegedly further said that the artist’s family is “going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success.” Meanwhile, an insider previously said to the news outlet that the loved ones of the singer have been “looking into treatment options for both addiction and mental health.” The person then explained, “Everyone is just praying that she doesn’t get jail time for this.” The insider also added, “That would be the worst-case scenario.”

Meanwhile, as reported by the news outlet, in his memoir, “You Thought You Knew,” Spears’ ex-husband, Federline, wrote, “This situation with Britney feels like it’s racing toward something irreversible.” He continued, “It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK.” He also penned, “From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the eleventh hour.” Federline published the memoir in October, 2025.
