The Darkwing Duck TV show reboot got a rather curious update from one of the original cast members. This reboot has been in development for years; however, the new update suggests a major change from the previous Disney shows involving the titular character.
According to Collider, Jim Cummings will not be part of the reboot as his role is being recasted. This news was confirmed by Cummings himself in a red carpet interview for the recently released Coyote vs. Acme.
The voice actor said, “I did a pilot for it several years ago to see the viability of it coming back, and everybody went nuts. And they are bringing it back, and they’re hiring somebody else to do Terry McGovern’s role of Launchpad, and they’re hiring somebody else to be Darkwing Duck. I hope they get…everything they deserve. Crazy, I don’t know what to tell you.”
Cummings had voiced Darkwing Duck for over thirty years. The voice actor provided vocals to the Disney character in the original series, which ran from 1991 to 1992 with 91 episodes. Moreover, he returned for the DuckTales reboot in 2017. Here, Cummings voiced the character Jim Starling. In the DuckTales series, Starling acted as Darkwing until eventually becoming the villain Negaduck.
Moreover, prior to the news of the recasting, Cummings also provided his voice for the test pilot episode of the upcoming reboot. The news of the recasting has also marked the end of Cummings’ journey with the character.

What else do we know about the Darkwing Duck reboot show?
The Darkwing Duck reboot show has been in development at Disney+ since 2020. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were set to executive produce the reboot through their Point Grey Pictures production company.
Moreover, Tad Stones, the original creator of the series, was stated to serve as a creative consultant on the reboot project. In 2022, Ben Siemon from Disney Television Animation implied that the project was cancelled. Stones later confirmed in 2024 that the project was still in development, although the original writers’ room split.
In addition to this, in an older interview with ScreenRant, Cummings shared that the reboot will not be a retelling of the original story. When asked if the reboot would be , the voice actor said, “Well, we’ve only recorded basically one offshoot so far. But the thing is, if it’s not broke, you don’t fix it. Gosalyn’s grown up. So that’s interesting. But yeah, you stay tuned.”
Disney+‘s Darkwing Duck reboot still has no official release date.
