- A large panel fell, nearly crushing a group of dancers on stage at a Freedom 250 celebration on Thursday.
- Donald Trump's beleaguered event commemorating America's 250th has suffered a number of setbacks, from low attendance, to performers pulling out, to a transphobic scandal.
- The White House did not respond to **'s request for comment regarding Thursday's technical mishap.
The metaphors write themselves: the main stage at Donald Trump's beleaguered Freedom 250 celebration appears to be literally falling apart.
In footage shared by attorney and independent journalist Aaron Parnas on Thursday, a group of young dancers were nearly crushed when a large panel plummeted to the stage during a live performance or rehearsal. A group of singers were belting out a jolly tune featuring a lyric about Uncle Sam, and the troupe of dancers beside them pliéd to the beat when the roofing element detached, fell, and shattered on the ground just feet behind them.
Splintered chunks of the panel could be seen flying in all directions after it collided with the ground. The singers slowed their performance to a stop and one dancer could be seen raising her hands to still the others in the aftermath.

The stage in question was newly erected on the White House lawn for the Freedom 250 celebration, planned to commemorate the semiquincentennial of America's founding. An AI-generated image of the stage can be viewed on the official Freedom 250 site's page for July 4's planned "Salute to America" event. The event is described as "a spectacular tribute to America and a celebration of the nation's 250th anniversary that will bring America's story to life through beautiful storytelling, patriotic performances, and the largest fireworks show in history."

This is the latest setback for Freedom 250, which is comprised of events across the country that span from May through August.
Private citizens and celebrities alike slammed Trump's conversion of the White House South Lawn into a UFC fighting ring in June, especially after one of the bout's victors, Josh Hokit, made a transphobic comment about former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Droves of artists originally scheduled to perform at one of Freedom 250's key events, the Great American State Fair, have since dropped out after Trump and his MAGA movement increasingly exerted control over the proceedings.

Trump suggested that he may even fill the gap with a performance of his own.
He is expected to deliver a speech at the National Mall at 9:45 p.m. ET on Saturday. "On July 4th, it’s going to be approximately 107 degrees out, and I’m going to go and I’m going to make a really long speech, just to show that I can do anything," he announced on Wednesday.
