Former View cohost and conservative commentator Meghan McCain admitted she “regrets” not forcing her father out of office at age 81.

Controversial conservative commentator and former View cohost Meghan McCain has admitted that she “regrets” not forcing her father, the late Sen. John McCain, out of office amid his cancer battle in 2018.
McCain made the admission Wednesday amid growing controversy surrounding the mysterious health status of 84-year-old Sen. Mitch McConnell’s health, after he was reportedly hospitalized in mid-June and hasn’t been seen publicly since.
“I also have a lot of regrets almost a decade since my dad’s passing. My family should have forced him to step down the second he was diagnosed,” McCain, 41, wrote on X in response to another person who replied to an earlier post that McCain appeared to have deleted.

McCain’s father remained in the senate until the day of his death at age 81, following a battle with brain cancer.
His daughter, who sat on The View panel from 2017-2021, said her father’s ordeal is “why I’m now an advocate for age and term limits in politics,” as rumors about McConnell’s health swirl in the nation.
“I also sincerely hope Senator McConnell is ok,” McCain finished in her response to the commenter, who wrote, “You know, I don’t remember anyone from the McConnell family making fun of your dad when he was absent from the Senate for the final 8 months of his life in a two seat majority. In fact, I remember McConnell personally flying out to sit with him in Sedona.”
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for McCain for clarification on the X post she appeared to delete.

McCain has long spoken about her father’s legacy, with fans of The View often mocking her repeated invocation of her father’s name while she sat at the Hot Topics table.
During the 2024 presidential election, she even revealed that she voted for him as a write-in candidate on her ballot, despite his death six years prior.

Earlier this year, McCain also changed her tune on Donald Trump, whom she repeatedly criticized in the past over his disparaging remarks about her late dad. McCain revealed in April that she and Trump shared an “olive branch” when she got “permission” to attend friend and former director of national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s confirmation ceremony at the White House.
