The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of Great Value-branded frozen berries sold at Walmart stores in 16 states that may be contaminated with Escherichia coli O145:H28 (E. coli O145).
This recall is an expansion of Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur’s previous July recall of Publix frozen blueberries and mixed berries.
How To Identify the Recalled Frozen Berries
Walmart is recalling one lot of its Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend, which comes in 10-ounce bags and contains strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. The recalled frozen fruit was sold at Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.
To identify whether you have the recalled frozen berries, you can look for the following information on the Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend packaging:

Lot Code: 6040 01-6
Best-If-Used-By Date: Feb. 9, 2028
No other Great Value-branded frozen fruits or lots of the Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend are impacted by this recall.

What To Do if You Have the Recalled Frozen Berries
If you have the recalled frozen berries, you should not consume them. Instead, throw them away or return them to Walmart for a full refund.
While Publix’s recalled berries have been linked to a multi-state E. coli outbreak that has sickened 12 individuals, including four who required hospitalization, Walmart’s frozen berries have not been linked to any illnesses. Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. is recalling the Great Value berries out of an abundance of caution after receiving traceback information.
However, if you have consumed the recalled Triple Berry Blend, you should monitor yourself for E. coli symptoms. An E. coli infection can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting.
Most healthy individuals can recover from an infection within a week, but children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems can experience more serious conditions, including hemolytic uremic syndrome.
