Howard Stern posed without his signature sunglasses in a rare Instagram photo with his wife Beth
The radio host stuck to his usual black outfit while Beth wore a summery blue sundress and straw hat
Stern previously explained his sunglasses became part of his look to feel more confident on TV appearances
Howard Stern is mixing up his appearance.
The radio host, 72, rarely strays from the famed sunglasses look that has become synonymous with him throughout his decades-long career in the spotlight and behind the mic. But in a new Instagram photo with his wife, Beth, Stern is switching things up — and going sans shades.
Howard did keep one thing the same, opting for his go-to black clothing despite it being the thick of summer. He wore a plain black hoodie and matching black pants, a complementary ensemble to his curly hair in the same shade.

While it’s hard to make out from the photo, it appears his signature sunglasses weren’t too far from reach as he seemingly clutches them in his right hand. In his wife’s hand, however, are French fries and a Shake Shack burger that she enjoyed next to him in the picture.
Beth, who wed the radio personality in October 2008, opted for a baby blue sundress with spaghetti straps and floral, lace detailing. She styled it with an off-white straw fedora with a thin brown band, a few necklaces and a stack of beaded bracelets.

“Shake Shack fries and mushroom burger…Perfect end of summer!! (Oh and I ate 3 slices of pizza too!) Thank you, LT!!!😘,” Beth captioned her Sunday, Aug. 30 post.
In 2018, Stern explained to David Letterman why he wears his sunglasses and how they became a part of his signature look to date.

“Whenever I go on TV, and that was never my career plan to be on TV. It was always radio. So when I go on TV, I wear these dark glasses feeling it made my look better,” he said at the time, adding, “Or that my face would be more handsome.”
“I’d watch these shows back whenever I’d go on and it did me no good,” he joked. “I’m sitting indoors in a dimply lit room with sunglasses on, and I still look no better.”
Howard also rarely appears on Beth’s Instagram page, even with sunglasses. She usually posts photos of their cats, but she did post a selfie with Howard on Aug. 26.
“Im in love ❤️,” she captioned the post.
