Sean Ono Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl announced the birth of their son Aurelius on Tuesday, Sept. 1

“We have indeed created a Human Bean!” the new dad captioned his social media post

The couple, together since 2007, have collaborated on music projects including their band The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, and Sean has followed in his father John Lennon’s footsteps, releasing solo albums and producing for artists like Lana Del Rey

Sean Ono Lennon, the son of the late John Lennon and Yoko Ono, has welcomed his first baby.

Sean, 50, and his long-term partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl, 39, announced the birth of their son Aurelius in a post shared across his social media pages on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

“Okay so…Charlotte and I would like to announce that we have indeed created a Human Bean!” Sean wrote in the caption. “His name is, Aurelius! Thank you!”

In the photo, the couple looked into the camera together as they both held their newborn son. The family of three wore coordinating black-and-white outfits.

Several musicians congratulated the couple in the comments on Sean’s Instagram announcement.

“Oh Sean I’m❤️❤️ so happy for you both,” Patti Smith wrote, while Willow Smith commented a heart and praying hands emoji and Dominic Fike commented a series of heart emojis.

Sean shared two other Instagram posts documenting Aurelius’ birth: a photo of himself holding his son wrapped in a white blanket, and a glimpse at Kemp Muhl in the hospital after giving birth.

“Baby Momma!” Sean captioned the photo of Kemp Muhl holding Aurelius in the hospital bed.

Kemp Muhl also shared a peek into their life as a family of three on Instagram, including several photos of herself carrying Aurelius in a baby harness while walking in the water and holding a small crab, a picture of him sleeping, and the same snap that Sean shared of himself with their son.

“We made a human! Am convinced DNA is agentic alien quaternary code,” she wrote in the caption. “The sleep deprivation only adds to the surrealism…Burping technique tips welcome. Been playing him Aphex Twin and Stravinsky. Meconium is crazy.”

Sean and Kemp Muhl, who is a musician and model, have been dating since 2007, PEOPLE previously reported. The pair, who met at Coachella in 2005, have worked on lots of music projects together, including the band The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.

Meanwhile, Sean has continued to follow in his late father and Beatles co-founder John’s musical footsteps. He has released four solo albums, five with his mother Ono, 93, and three with the psychedelic rock band the Claypool Lennon Delirium.

Additionally, he has been credited as a producer on a number of albums, including Lana Del Rey‘s 2017 release, Lust for Life, which includes their wistful duet “Tomorrow Never Came.”

“I never played music because I was good at it,” Sean previously told PEOPLE in November 2024. “I lost my father and I didn’t know how to fill that void. Learning how to play his songs on guitar was a way to process the loss with an activity that made me feel connected to him.”
