It turns out money can’t buy you everything — according to a fashion insider’s claims about North West.

The daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West has always been a keen fashionista, but Hermès apparently does not want her to represent the brand. Author and journalist Amy Odell made the claim in a recent newsletter sent to her subscribers. Speaking with a former employee of the Beverly Hills Hermès boutique for her “Retail Confessions” series, the source claimed “not every celebrity got what they wanted” at the luxury store.

Amy Odell’s recent Back Row newsletter had an edition titled Retail Confessions: Hermès Beverly Hills, featuring interviews with luxury salespeople.

“Kanye West and Kim Kardashian wanted a Black Mini Kelly bag for North or something like that. And Hermès said no,” one insider told Amy.

The Kelly bag, created by the brand in the 1930s and later renamed in honor of actress-turned-Princess Grace Kelly, regularly retails between $10,000 to over $100,000. The mini Kelly bags, which North allegedly sought after, sit at around $25,000–$40,000, going for the way higher on the reseller’s market. Certain materials, such as alligator, range from $35,000 to over $50,000.

“I have no idea why, but we were like, ‘Oh, wow,’” the source continued. “I think at that point it goes through corporate, because if someone who’s that high profile wants something, then obviously they’re going to be photographed in it — and they don’t want just anyone photographed in it.”

“So you’d call the press office and be like, ‘Hey, so and so wants a handbag.’ And they’d usually say, ‘Cool.’ But for some reason they didn’t want North West to have an alligator Mini Kelly.”

If true, the brand hasn’t frozen North out entirely, with the celebrity regularly showing off her Hermès collection in person and online.
