Madonnaâs new album contains the track âBizarre,â which many speculated is about her ex-husband, actor Sean Penn.
The song sees Madonna sing about a Hollywood flame who has âdeep blue eyesâ like Penn.
âRolled out the carpet for us, but you wonât share it. I guess youâre threatened by me,â Madonna sings on the Confessions II song.
Madonnaâs new Confessions II album has courted speculation over the lyrics of a song that sees the pop icon haunted by the ghost of a famous ex-lover that many have speculated is Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn.
Confessions II cut âBizarreâ tells the story of the push-and-pull attraction between Madonna and an old flame, whom she describes in the Martin Garrix-produced dance tuneâs lyrics as having physical features similar to the One Battle After Another star.
âLove is the strangest thing. Just when you think youâve finally let go, it comes back to you,â Madonna softly speaks at the top of the song, released 41 years after she first married Penn in 1985.
Madonna continues, singing about a âmovie starâ with âdeep blue eyesâ (which Penn famously also has), calling their relationship a âperfect prizeâ in Hollywood.
âHe drove way too fast. Shelby Cobra wasnât meant to last,â Madonna sings, referencing a brand of car that sheâs rumored to have previously gifted to Penn before they divorced in 1989.
âRolled out the carpet for us, but you wonât share it. I guess youâre threatened by me, you wonât admit it,â Madonna later sings on the song. âThe little things that you did that made me want you. The fire was so intense.â
The chorus swells as Madonna asks, âWho knew love can be so bizarre?â before more verses detail other frustrations in the relationship.
âI know I left you behind and you resent me. A thousand reasons why you could never have me,â Madonna sings. âThe thought of being with you is so indecent. I guess youâll never know my dirty little secrets.â

Still, she admits later in the song, âNow youâre gone, I feel so empty. Why do you tempt me?â
