Madonna’s new album contains the track “Bizarre,” which many speculated is about her ex-husband, actor Sean Penn.

The song sees Madonna sing about a Hollywood flame who has “deep blue eyes” like Penn.

“Rolled out the carpet for us, but you won’t share it. I guess you’re threatened by me,” Madonna sings on the Confessions II song.

Madonna’s new Confessions II album has courted speculation over the lyrics of a song that sees the pop icon haunted by the ghost of a famous ex-lover that many have speculated is Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn.

Confessions II cut “Bizarre” tells the story of the push-and-pull attraction between Madonna and an old flame, whom she describes in the Martin Garrix-produced dance tune’s lyrics as having physical features similar to the One Battle After Another star.

“Love is the strangest thing. Just when you think you’ve finally let go, it comes back to you,” Madonna softly speaks at the top of the song, released 41 years after she first married Penn in 1985.

Madonna continues, singing about a “movie star” with “deep blue eyes” (which Penn famously also has), calling their relationship a “perfect prize” in Hollywood.

“He drove way too fast. Shelby Cobra wasn’t meant to last,” Madonna sings, referencing a brand of car that she’s rumored to have previously gifted to Penn before they divorced in 1989.

“Rolled out the carpet for us, but you won’t share it. I guess you’re threatened by me, you won’t admit it,” Madonna later sings on the song. “The little things that you did that made me want you. The fire was so intense.”

The chorus swells as Madonna asks, “Who knew love can be so bizarre?” before more verses detail other frustrations in the relationship.

“I know I left you behind and you resent me. A thousand reasons why you could never have me,” Madonna sings. “The thought of being with you is so indecent. I guess you’ll never know my dirty little secrets.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Madonna and Penn for comment on the song’s lyrics.

Confessions II dropped Friday as Madonna’s first full-length album in seven years, following the release of Madame X in 2019.

The LP’s rollout has generated intense excitement among fans. The Queen of Pop’s high-profile promotional campaign saw her return to her roots in dance music, with buzzy performances high above Times Square, at LGBTQ club The Abbey in West Hollywood, and at Coachella alongside lead single “Bring Your Love” duet partner Sabrina Carpenter.
