After Matthew Perry’s death in October 2023, Netflix has now announced a three-part documentary to narrate the story of his life. The announcement came on Tuesday, when the streamer revealed Perry’s friends and family will speak about his life, career, and addiction.
Titled The One About Matthew Perry, the Netflix show will mark the “first in-depth, definitive documentary” about the FRIENDS star. It will also feature never-before-heard testimonies and unreleased footage from the actor’s family’s private archive.

According to reports from The Independent, Matthew Perry’s sister Mia Perry Bowick opened up about the upcoming Netflix documentary on her brother’s life, career, addiction, and untimely death.
Scheduled to release on Oct. 27, 2026, Bowick revealed, the documentary will share “candid new details on [Perry’s] private struggles.” It will include footage and testimonies from his family, former creative collaborators, and lifelong friends.
“It’s taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life — to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction,” Perry’s sister shared.
She continued, “As his sister, he shaped who I am today, the person I strive to be, and the work to which I’ve devoted my life. Matthew had a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, and even in his darkest moments, he could still make you laugh and feel loved.”
“I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar, a deeper appreciation for who he truly was, and the legacy he leaves behind,” Bowick said.

Peacock Previously Released a Documentary on Perry’s Death Investigation
While Netflix is preparing the documentary titled The One About Matthew Perry, under Emmy-winning director Mary Robertson’s direction, Peacock already released an investigative documentary on Perry’s death.
Titled Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy and directed by Robert Palumbo, the documentary explored the investigation into Perry’s death and even exposed the ring of medical experts and drug dealers held responsible for his ketamine overdose.
The Peacock documentary also featured some of his co-stars, including teary-eyed Jennifer Aniston in an archive interview and Morgan Fairchild in a real-time conversation with the filmmakers for the documentary.
Fairchild, who played Matthew Perry’s on-screen mother, Nora, in FRIENDS, said in the documentary, “I tried to reach out a little bit and let him know I was there for him.” However, Perry eventually passed away in 2023.
Further, the five co-conspirators are also highlighted by the filmmakers, and the text messages that show some of them allegedly plotting against Perry are also exposed. The documentary ends on a sentimental note, showing fans mourning Perry’s death.
