“Outer Banks” star Chase Stokes responds to plastic surgery rumors, reveals if he’s gotten work done

Chase Stokes was asked to pinpoint the “most ridiculous assumption or rumor” he’s ever heard about himself online.

The Outer Banks star responded, “The amount of plastic surgery I’ve had.”

The actor clarified whether he has undergone cosmetic procedures.

The Outer Banks star appeared on the I’ve Never Said This Before podcast when he was asked to point out the “most ridiculous assumption or rumor” that he’s seen about himself on the internet, according to a clip published by PEOPLE.

Stokes quickly told host Tommy DiDario that the wildest chatter he’s seen about himself is “the amount of plastic surgery I’ve had,” explaining, “I see these doctors who are like, ‘He’s got an upper [blepharoplasty]’ and, ‘He’s got his lips done.’ Like legitimate doctors.”

Stokes took the opportunity to address the rumor mill head on. “On the record, I will say it, I’ve never had any work done on my face, and so it’s so funny to me to see them go into the details of it all,” he said. “I’m like, ‘Oh man, you should probably have your license revoked there.’”

The actor said that the social media doctors “go into all the details in the anatomy of my face” assuming he’s had work done. “What are we doing?” he asked.

Stokes said that he has learned to log off rather than engage with people discussing him on social media. “I used to be a little more online with that stuff, but I’ve realized to just shut up,” he said. “It’s so tough, but then you realize when you comment, you give them more exposure.”

Elsewhere in the clip, Stokes reflected on his rise to fame after the breakout success of Netflix’s Outer Banks. “It’s not like there’s an idiot’s guide to success in this industry, and I didn’t really have mentors because it did happen so fast,” he said.

However, he noted that he and his castmates had a certain amount of “luxury” compared to other shows with similar success like Prime Video’s Off Campus and HBO Max’s Heated Rivalry because Outer Banks blew up during the pandemic. The cast’s social isolation protected them from the immediate effects of overnight fame.

“We went right back to work, and we were put in a bubble,” he said. “So we didn’t go out into the world. We went to an apartment complex that we literally could go from our apartments to work and back.”

Stokes explained that he experienced an “elongated time period where the world was still shut down, even though the world was kind of open, because our jobs were the priority.”

Once he and his castmates emerged from their isolated bubble, they felt a more pronounced distance from their pre-Outer Banks lives.

“Once the world opened up, we all just felt so cooped up, and then we all just went any and everywhere we could,” he said. “And I really had a hard time with it. I didn’t know how to navigate somebody knowing as much as they did about me that I had never met, and feeling like I had to be on all the time, and not really having a social life to then having a social life — it was a really tough adjustment.”

He added, “People want to see you fail, people want to see you fall. And I’m not perfect, and I’m subject to some of the criticism that I’ve gone through, but at the end of the day, you’re trying to figure it out as you’re going.”
