The British royal family is celebrating the United States’ 250th anniversary.
The royal family commemorated the occasion with an Instagram video on Saturday, July 4, sharing footage from King Charles and Queen Camilla’s visit to the U.S. in April.
The video kicked off with the royals greeting a crowd of people waving U.K. flags and U.S. flags. Additional clips showed them watching a patriotic show and meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump over tea and biscuits at the White House.
Other footage showed the King, 77, speaking in front of the U.S. legislature, and him and Camilla, 78, greeting members of the military and National Park Service.
The video, soundtracked by “Life Is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts, ended with a shot of the royals standing alongside the U.S. president and first lady on a White House balcony as they waved to people.
“Happy 2️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ to the United States! 🇺🇸✨,” the royal family wrote in the video’s caption. “Today, America celebrates their 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence - it was great to celebrate this milestone with you all earlier in the year!”

King Charles also penned a letter to the president and the American people to congratulate the U.S. on the 250th anniversary of the nation’s independence.
“This year marks a truly historic milestone and a moment of great celebration for Americans everywhere,” the monarch wrote. “It offers an opportunity to pause and reflect on the remarkable journey of the United States over the past two and a half centuries, and to honour all that has been achieved since 1776.”
He described the relationship between the U.K. and U.S. as one of “extraordinary evolution” from “overcoming conflict” to becoming “one of the closest and most productive alliances the world has seen.”
“I am greatly encouraged by the enduring bond between our countries, and by the many connections between our peoples, which we were able to see once again, at first-hand, on our visit,” the King continued. “Through centuries of shared challenge and achievement, our nations have built a relationship founded on friendship, trust and a belief in liberty, the rule of law and the dignity of all people."
