Sandra Bullock makes a rare comment on dating after the death of longtime partner Bryan Randall.
The actress said her daughter thinks it’s time for her to see someone new.
Bullock and Randall were together from 2015 until his death in 2023.
Sandra Bullock made a rare comment about dating, three years after the death of her longtime partner Bryan Randall.
The Practical Magic 2 star sat down with Kylie Kelce on the Not Gonna Lie podcast Thursday and admitted her 12-year-old daughter, Laila, has been on her to start dating again. Her longtime love Randall died in August 2023 at the age of 57 following a private three-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He and Bullock were together since 2015.
“[Laila] said I needed to date, but only someone where they could get stuff,” Bullock told Kelce, also referencing her 16-year-old son, Louis. “So I said, ‘What, a rapper, a basketball player? That’s the parameters?’ She’s like, ‘Yeah.’ I went, ‘Oh.’”
Bullock said her kids generally “don’t care” about her career or Hollywood standings, they “just care if you come back with stuff for them.”
“My job is craft service,” she told Kelce. “That’s what my job was [when they were little]. A place that had extensive craft service.”
Bullock said she took a step back from acting over the past few years due to her family’s needs, admitting she “didn’t expect to be doing it this long because, when I started, nobody did the job this long.”
“My kids are my everything, so if it doesn’t work for them and my time with them, then I’m not doing it,” the Oscar winner continued of selecting what jobs to accept. “And I’m lucky. I’m lucky that I’m one of the moms that gets to be with her kids all the time. I have no desire to leave my kids.”
Amid Randall’s “traumatic diagnosis” and death, Bullock took a step away from the spotlight to care for him and her children. But she’snow set to make her big-screen return in Practical Magic 2, out Sept. 10. She said the decision to return was in part due to her “two halves of a whole” dynamic with costar Nicole Kidman.

Bullock also spoke about her past roles, including Gracie Hart in Miss Congeniality, which she called “sweet and good-natured.”
“It just worked,” Bullock said of the 2000 film. “No one thought it would when we were making it. Go figure. We were shooting in Austin, and it was 100 degrees for 90 days straight, and we smelled like cheese. It was horrible. But it was a bunch of good-natured human beings going, ‘We just want to make people laugh.’ And we did.”

Kelce brought up Bullock’s iconic trip-and-fall scene in the movie, when Gracie’s makeover from FBI agent to pageant queen is revealed. Bullock admitted the lavender Hervé Léger bandage dress was “a walking Spanx”—yet she still wore two more pairs underneath as well as “chicken cutlet” inserts in her bra.

When asked if she knew she looked hot in that moment, Bullock immediately stated, “No.”
“I’m trying to honestly think of any time that I thought I felt ‘hot,’” she said, “and it’s always when you, like, roll out of bed, your hair is cute and tousled, and you’re in like a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, and no one can see it. That’s when I look hot. And it’s wasted... on my children.
“If anyone gets a photo of me looking like that, it’s never as cute as I thought. Doesn’t translate,” she added. “But I don’t think I’ve ever left the house thinking, ‘I look hot.’”
