Scottie Scheffler shocked wife with first action immediately after winning Tour Championship

Scottie Scheffler shocked his wife, Meredith, and his manager after he darted to the bar following his Tour Championship win.

The World No. 1 won the Tour Championship by three strokes to claim his second career FedEx Cup title and surpass Tiger Woods in career earnings with over $130 million. Not only did he earn his third title of the season and most likely secure player of the year awards, but he rewarded himself with an adult beverage in the clubhouse before talking with the media.

“I had a beer for the first time in a long time,” said Scheffler. “It just sounded good. Right when we got off the course, I got in there, these guys are trying to get me to do media and all this stuff. I was like 'how much time do we really have?' They're like 'we've got a couple minutes'. All right, let me go inside and get some air conditioning. There was an open bar inside, and I'm like, all right, I'm grabbing a beer. It tasted great.” The moment came as Scheffler immediately lost an enormous amount of money from his FedEx Cup win paycheck.

Scheffler figured that breaking a century-long record held by Woods and earning $10 million in four days of competition was worthy of a beer.

“I don't really drink very often,” said Scheffler. “My wife and my manager were like, ' Wow, I haven't seen you have a beer in a long time.' Well, season's over now. I'm going to have a beer. Well-earned beer.”

The season is officially over, as Scheffler stamped his name down in history at East Lake with three trophies and five runner-ups on the season. Two of his titles came in the last three weeks of play during the FedEx Cup playoffs.

“I think just playing tournament golf, I think is a battle as a whole,” said Scheffler. “I think that's part of why I love it too. I get to play against the course, myself. You have to learn how to handle your emotions, handle pressure, not take days off. That's something I'm very proud of.”

The PGA Tour’s family man goes into every tournament at 100 percent, knowing one day he won’t be able to maintain the energy.

“I feel like I hold myself to a high standard, which I think sometimes can be good and bad,” said Scheffler. “I feel like at times I probably could be a bit of a pain to be around when things aren't going the way they should. I don't feel like I take days off. I'm highly competitive, and I'm very proud of being able to have the consistent results I've had over the years.”

Scheffler has felt extremely proud of his postseason efforts

Scheffler just hopes to have a lasting legacy as the World No. 1.

“I don't want to look back at the end of my career and feel like I could have done more in order to play well,” said Scheffler. “I want to be able to tell myself when I hang it up that I did everything I could. I feel like years like this kind of show that to myself, how important that is. Yeah, I don't know how to elaborate beyond that.”

It comes after Scheffler's wife immediately called another golf star following an awkward incident.
