Kate Middleton was asked if she was âthe Queenâs daughterâ at her latest engagement
The Princess of Wales was quick to clarify who she was to the boy, a patient she met during her visit to Evelina London Childrenâs Hospital
Princess Kate used her royal title in her response
Kate Middleton knew just what to say when a young boy asked about her royal role.
The candid moment unfolded during the Princess of Walesâ visit to Evelina London Childrenâs Hospital on July 6, a stop she made as patron to check out the centerâs new developments to increase patient care.
As seen in a video shared to X by royal editor Rebecca English of the Daily Mail, Princess Kate, 44, had a quick reply when a 10-year-old boy named Ejran asked who she was.
âAre you the Queenâs daughter?â Ejran, a cardiac patient, asked Princess Kate during their meeting.

âNo, I am Princess of Wales,â the royal replied with a smile.
Turning the attention back to Ejran, Princess Kate continued, âVery nice to meet you. Iâve come to see the amazing work that is going on here, meet special children â very brave children, like yourself.â
âHow long have you been here? A long time?â she asked, as Ejran nodded, before meeting some of his loved ones.
Kate became the Princess of Wales in September 2022 following Queen Elizabethâs death, taking on the title famously previously associated with her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
The title became Kateâs as King Charles named his eldest son Prince William as the Prince of Wales, bestowing William, 44, with the traditional title for the male heir to the throne and the one King Charles, 77, had carried for most of his life.

King Charlesâ accession also triggered a title change for his wife, who has since been called Queen Camilla. However, Queen Camillaâs royal status is different than her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth, as Queen Elizabeth was a queen regnant, or female monarch, while Queen Camilla is a queen consort through her marriage to Charles.
When Prince William eventually accedes to the throne one day, itâs expected that Princess Kate will become a queen consort.
The Princess of Wales and Ejran spoke about his time in the hospital, making friends and music during their close chat, where they realized that one of his favorite movies is also popular with her children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.
âI like Shrek, my kiddies like Shrek. Itâs funny, all the songs and dancing,â Princess Kate said about the hit franchise.
The royal mom also asked to see a poem that Ejran wrote, before excusing herself to continue her tour.

Kate has supported Evelina London Childrenâs Hospital since her time as the Duchess of Cambridge and became the hubâs patron in 2018. The medical center is expanding its services to meet increasing demand and plans include a collaboration for a future Childrenâs Cancer Principal Treatment Centre with staff from The Royal Marsden Hospital, where the Princess of Wales received treatment during her own cancer journey.

Princess Kate announced in March 2024 that she was receiving treatment for cancer and reduced her royal duties to focus on her health. She shared in January 2025 that she was in remission and has gradually returned to work since.
She recently undertook the ambitious Three Peaks Challenge to help fundraise for the Royal Marsden and highlight what life beyond cancer can look like.
