Softball: Manogue claims berth at state; Reed and Douglas win Thursday

Bishop Manogue celebrates its 8-3 win against Spanish Springs in Thursday's playoff game at Spanish Springs on May 7, 2026.

Bishop Manogue rallied to beat Spanish Springs and now the Miners ae returning to the state large-class softball tournament for the first time since 2011.

The Miners beat the Cougars, 8-3 on Thursday in a Class 5A- North Regional softball tournament game at Spanish Springs.

Also on Thursday, Reed beat McQueen, 14-4, and Douglas beat Damonte Ranch. 20-8.

On Friday, in the first losers bracket game, at Spanish Springs, at 1 p.m., Reed will play Douglas, then that winner will play Spanish Springs at 4 p.m.

The team that emerges from Friday's bracket will play Bishop Manogue at 10 a.m. Saturday at the highest remaining seed. Spanish Springs is No. 1 seed, Bishop Manogue is No. 2, Reed is No. 3 and Douglas is No. 5.

In Bishop Manogue's win, freshman Laeney Harris pitched all seven innings, allowing seven hits with four strikeouts.

The Miners had 14 hits. Sis King was 4-for-5; Reese Vaulet was 3-for-4 with an RBI; Kiki Harris was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Olivia Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

For the Cougars, Hannah Fitzpatrick was 2-for-3; Maddy Rogers was 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Spanish Springs had eliminated Bishop Manogue in the Regional semifinals the past two years.

In Reed's win, Raider senior Bre Staats went 5-for-5 to smash the state record most hits in a career. She now has 253 hits in her four seasons on the Raiders varsity with at least one more game to play.

Hayle Noble was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Jaelee Hammes was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Brittany Taelour got the win, striking out 11 and allowing six hits in six innings.

For McQueen, senior Vanessa Bein was 2-for-3.

In the Tigers' win they had 15 hits as Kira Northcutt went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and six RBIs; Hailee Lister went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, Peyton Simpson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Cameron Coats was 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

For Damonte Ranch, Reese Matter was 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs, Bella Mamola was 2-for-3 and Alyssa Dow was 1-for-2 with a solo home run.

In Thursday's games, Debbie Smith CTE beat Truckee, 15-9; then Lowry beat Debbie Smith, 15-0.

Fernley beat Elko, 10-4; then beat South Tahoe, 18-3.

Friday: 8 a.m., Truckee vs. South Tahoe; 10:30 a.m., Elko vs. Debbie Smith. Two winners then play, followed by Lowry vs. Fernley

Saturday: Championship 10:30 a.m.; if-necessary game to follow.

Friday: 8:30 a.m., Battle Mountain vs. Pershing County; 11 a.m., Yerington vs. Oasis.
