A 19-year-old man is dead after he fell onto the electrified third rail at a MBTA subway station in Boston on Aug. 29
He was attempting to save his girlfriend, according to a local report

A 19-year-old Massachusetts man was killed after he fell onto subway tracks while trying to save his girlfriend.
On the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 29, two 19-year-olds were together when they entered the MBTA Forest Hills Station while carrying flags during Boston’s Caribbean Carnival, Fox affiliate WFXT, the Fall River Reporter and CBS affiliate WBZ reported.
When the young woman lost her balance, the 19-year-old man tried to assist her and both fell into the track area. The male victim landed on the electrified third rail and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was transported to a local hospital, according to the reports.
“This appears to be a horrific tragedy and on behalf of the Transit Police Department and the entire MBTA organization we express our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends,” the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) said in a statement shared with WBZ. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
The 19-year-old man has since been identified as Frankey Wright Jr., his dad Frankey Wright confirmed to WFXT.
He told the outlet that his son and his son’s girlfriend were attending the festival and it was Frankey Jr.’s first time on the train.

“My son was a noble young man, and he lost his life trying to save the life of his girlfriend,” the grieving father told the outlet.
No foul play is suspected, and an investigation into the fatal incident is ongoing. The MBTA did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Following the tragedy, loved ones launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses.
“Those closest to him will always remember Frankey as a noble boy with a big heart,” wrote the organizer, who did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment, “someone who put others before himself even in his final moments.”
