A TODAY Show host left her fellow co-hosts speechless on Monday's episode after dropping a major personal bombshell live on national television.

NBC News correspondent Emilie Ikeda, a familiar face as a recurring co-host on the TODAY Show, caught the entire panel completely off guard on the Monday, August 31, episode with an unexpected family update. The 32-year-old co-hosts, Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer, were left at a loss for words after revealing ultrasound images on air.

She announced that she and her husband, Pat, are expecting their first child, sending her co-hosts into a state of complete shock. The news comes after TODAY Show's host Carson Daly said that Harry Styles was reportedly invited to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's MSG wedding.

Ikeda laughed as her co-hosts were momentarily rendered speechless during the live broadcast when she delivered the exciting news of her pregnancy.

Although Melvin and Dreyer were visibly caught off guard and appeared to have had no prior knowledge of her announcement, a crew member off-camera presented her with a gift basket to mark the occasion, reports the Irish Star.

While Ikeda isn't a daily fixture on the Today show, audiences have grown well acquainted with her through hundreds of appearances on the program since 2021. She also steps in as a fill-in co-host for Dreyer on the show.

Ikeda spoke to Today.com about her exciting news, revealing she is currently in her second trimester, with a due date of January 17.

"My first trimester was really difficult," she told the outlet. "I was incredibly nauseous, which can get complicated in a spontaneous job that has me chasing breaking news regularly."

She largely kept her pregnancy under wraps throughout the summer while continuing to report on the latest news in the sweltering heat.

Ikeda has been covering the trial of Lindsay Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse, who has pleaded not guilty to murder charges in the deaths of her three children in January 2023 - Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan.

Previously, she reported on the 2026 Olympics, filling in for Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, who announced she would no longer be traveling to Milan following the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother. Melvin also chose to stay stateside during the international sporting event.

Ikeda revealed to TODAY that she and her husband have no plans for a gender reveal, as she prefers to be surprised by her baby's sex.

"I think in a world filled with instant information, there are few genuine surprises, and this feels like the ultimate surprise," she told Today.

She added, "I can only imagine the euphoria in the delivery room when someone reveals, 'It's a ... BOY/GIRL!'.

Ikeda and her husband tied the knot in 2022 at a ceremony in the Smoky Mountains, and the couple are expecting their first child together in early 2027.
