Bristow Barnyard Animal Rescue had to move quickly once the twister hit Bristow, Oklahoma, Friday evening. Beth Roberts of Bristow Barnyard Animal Rescue, a nonprofit animal rescue, posted to Facebook showing the aftermath and the damage done to a business that operates primarily outdoors.

"When the weather first hit, we had some loose dogs because the kennels were taken completely out, but everybody was quickly contained," Roberts said.

Several towns across the Midwest and Plains have been hit by tornadoes that claimed multiple lives and left dozens injured. Business owners are already feeling the effects, physically and mentally.

The tornado destroyed multiple dog kennels leading her to have to corral and contain multiple loose dogs. Thankfully, all dogs were accounted for and safe, but in her Facebook post, she acknowledges the emotional toll it took on her.

"No dogs harmed," Roberts said. "We also do farm animal rescue here, so there were over 150 farm animals outside, but everyone hunkered down and was OK this morning."

Meteorologist Rob Shackelford offered insight into the tornado that devastated parts of Bristow.

“A tornado watch was issued that included the Bristow area around 2:45 p.m. CST (3:45 p.m. EST), with the main threats being a couple of strong tornadoes, tennis ball-sized hail and gusts to 70 mph."

"Storms began to ramp up across the region shortly after, with Bristow being in the area of greatest concern of strong storms. The first tornado warning was issued for Creek County, where Bristow is located, just before 5 p.m. CST ( 6 p.m. EST) as a powerful storm approached. This was just a radar-indicated tornado warning, but these storms are still dangerous and can drop a tornado at any time."

"Storm surveys will be conducted in the coming days to determine exact tornado strength and duration.”

Roberts and her team are now focused on rebuilding. The rescue runs on donations, which can be made through Cash App or PayPal. These funds will help cover the cost of new kennels and repairs, and contributions of any size are welcome as they work to restore the facility.
