Trump praises statue by Zanesville artist now installed at Miami golf course
President Donald Trump has touted the installation of a 15-foot-tall statue of his own likeness, recently delivered and installed at a eponymous golf course in Miami.
Trump posted on Truth Social on May 7 about the statue, which was sculpted by Zanesville-based Alan Cottrill.
The statue, which depicts Trump pumping his fist in the air after a July 2024 assassination attempt in western Pennsylvania, has been installed at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami.
Cottrill had been in an ongoing payment dispute with the cryptocurrency group that had commissioned the work in August 2024. Cottrill had been paid $300,000 for the bronze and another $60,000 for gold leafing. Cottrill said the payment issue related to copyright infringement after the group used the likeness of the statue to sell crypto tokens.

Cottrill and the crypto company reached a financial agreement in April, at which point Cottrill released the statue from the undisclosed location in Muskingum County where it was being stored.
Following the payment agreement, Cottrill drove the statue to the golf course and installed it on a custom-designed pedestal. The golf club hosted the PGA Tour's 2026 Cadillac Championship, which ended on May 3, and will host a G20 Summit in December.
Cottrill also created a bronze statue of Thomas Edison that is in the U.S. Capitol's National Statuary Hall.
